Global

Basic Info

Type:
Description:
The ‘new’ official group for Manchester’s Sonic Card scheme of £3 tickets for students to top quality concerts.

All students are on a budget, we know that, but with a free Sonic Card you can go to all those concerts you’ve been longing to see for just £3 or maybe broaden your horizons on the cheap.

How do I join?

There are three ways to join:

1. Look out for our friendly Sonic Card Networkers at any Sonic Card event - you can complete a membership form and sign up on the spot.
2. You can complete a membership form and get your card at any time at The Bridgewater Hall or RNCM box offices
3. Sign up online (from the website) and pick up your card at a Sonic Card event (don’t forget your NUS or Student ID card)!
Once you've got your card in your hand all you have to do is show it at the box office, along with a valid NUS card or student ID and a £3 bargain is yours!

Just for convenience here are some useful numbers:

RNCM Box Office: 0161 907 5555
The Bridgewater Hall Box Office: 0161 907 9000

Join this group for updates on the scheme, latest concerts, social events and much much more!

Recent News

Welcome to the new Sonic Card Facebook group.

The next Sonic Card concert is:

Powerplant
Import/Export

Matthew Fairclough Audiotectonics III
Joby Burgess/Matthew Fairclough Carbon Copy
Javier Alvarez Temazcal
Graham Fitkin new work
Steve Reich Electric Counterpoint
Gabriel Prokofiev Import/Export

Joby Burgess percussion
Matthew Fairclough sound design
Kathy Hinde visuals

Bringing together some of the most dynamic
young British artists, Powerplant explores
hi-octane percussion-led music with an
electronic sound and strong visual performance.
Led by percussionist Joby Burgess, the group
was one of just a few ensembles to perform at
Steve Reich’s Barbican birthday celebrations,
Phases, in 2006.

For this show, the multi-media collective and
composer/producer Gabriel Prokofiev
(grandson of Sergei!) team up for a striking
new collaboration. Import/Export is a
large-scale new work for found objects with
social themes and global resonances. Oil
drums, Nigerian Fanta bottles, plastic bags and
mobile telephones will be woven together with
live electronics and film. Powerplant will also
première a new work from British minimalist,
Graham Fitkin, a ten minute piece for xylosynth
and live electronics, with motion tracking
visuals created by Kathy Hinde.

Booking Info
You can book tickets now from the RNCM Box Office on 0161 907 5555. You can also get them at the box office on the night but we can't guarantee they will be available as tickets are selling fast!! Don't forget to bring your student ID along with your Sonic Card - this confirms that you are a bonafide student and are entitled to have a Sonic Card. If you don't have both forms of ID you may have to pay full whack and we wouldn't want that!

If you've got a student friend who doesn't have a Sonic Card, don't disown them yet - they can sign up on the night at our table in the foyer and then head to the Box Office for their £3 ticket!

The Sonic Card...
All the info you'll ever need is on the website www.soniccard.co.uk <http://www.soniccard.co.uk/>
And don't forget anyone can come along and sign up to Sonic Card for free on the night to get their £3 ticket, so do forward this to anyone you think might want to come and hold your hand...

So we’ll see you there then. Make sure you get there a bit before 7.30pm to get hold of your £3 ticket and have a chat with us. If you’re lucky we may even go for a drink after!
