Becoming a Networker

There are loads of benefits to becoming a Networker for the Sonic Card – all we ask for is a little commitment and you can get free tickets to all of the Sonic Card events

Who are the Networkers?

The Sonic Card is run in part by students from the RNCM, Manchester University and Manchester Metropolitan University.

These student ‘Networkers’ act as the face of the Sonic Card, recruiting new members, promoting events to other students and taking an active involvement in the marketing (including writing all of the content for this website, and keeping pages on social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace up-to-date).

Sonic Card relies on the Networkers and their knowledge of the student market, and would not be the success it has become without them.

What does it involve?

Being a Networker really isn’t as much work as it might sound! Networkers take part in weekly or fortnightly meetings with representatives from the RNCM, BBC Philharmonic and Manchester Camerata, offering their ideas and opinions, and producing the content for marketing (we write our own content rather than just pinching it from the brochures each of the organisations produces for its older audiences – it’s more informal that way).

In September, Networkers help to man tables at Freshers’ Fairs, and at events we always try to have a student presence so that people can join Sonic Card on event nights.

What are the Benefits?

Of course, all Networkers are entitled to free tickets to Sonic Card events, but the Sonic Card brings more than simply financial reward. The Sonic Card is the sort of thing that employers love to see on CVs, and it helps develop key skills that are useful on any university course and in any workplace. Above all though, it’s good fun!

You don’t have to be a Music student, or even know huge amounts about classical music - if you can give a small but regular amount of time throughout the year, and have a keen interest in all types of music, then being a Networker is for you!
